They fit over the cylinder’s original casing to bring it back up to its intended circumference and keep it in place so it can perform to its highest standard. What is resleeving?
Resleeving is commonly employed for high-performance or racing vehicles which are routinely put under an immense amount of pressure. However, everyday vehicles are also affected by the issues mentioned above, and have to be monitored closely to pick up any signs that a cylinder might not be working properly as quickly as possible. They can then be resleeved in the same way.
If necessary, all of the cylinders in the engine can be resleeved in order to restore them to the specifications they would have had when they were newly machined. However, it’s important to remember that resleeving is a job that requires a great deal of technical knowledge and mechanical skill, and is therefore best left to a professional (even considering the cost of a job like this) rather than being attempted at home.
